IMMUNE SYSTEM BOOSTER DRINK

Writer: Lozz BensonLozz Benson

Sometimes it’s the little things that count on a daily basis that can significantly contribute to your health and well-being. I find myself drinking this often in the week first thing in the morning and find it helps especially on long tours.

This drink kills bacteria, aids with digestion, alkalises your blood, reduces inflammation, and keeps your immune system in check. When you are sharing a bus with other people, going in and out of airports and gig venues, it can be easy to catch a bug or get run down.

YOU'LL NEED:

- Hot water

- Fresh ginger

- Fresh lemon

- Raw or Manuka honey. Manuka honey may cost a little bit more, but is well worth the added medicinal benefits. You can usually find some in a health food store or pharmacy. Try and get the one with the highest MGO content.

- A small grater. You can find them in homeware stores or super markets. I have found cheap pocket sized ones and they are good for travel. You can store it in a sandwich bag or small container.

- Anything else you want to add like Turmeric or Apple cider vinegar.

WHAT TO DO:

1. Boil the kettle. Duh.

2. Slice the skin of the ginger off if you have a knife, and grate it. I find I reap more benefits and get more zing instead of just cutting it finely when I do this. Also, I like the feeling of my throat burning when I drink ginger.

3. Add the juice from the fresh lemon and honey to your taste. I like to also eat a little bit of manuka honey to coat my throat before I drink this.

4. Depending on how strong you like your tonic, add less water for a stronger mix or add more water to dilute it. Sometimes I only end up drinking half because it's heaps strong but I like it like that.

5. Let all the ingredients steep before drinking.

NOTE:

If you are travelling light or and don't have access to a kettle, you could still eat a teaspoon of manuka honey and apple cider vinegar in the morning when you feel a little rusty. Enjoy!
